Way-Too-Early 2026 NFL Playoff Predictions: AFC And NFC Contenders

It is still early, but the shape of the 2026 NFL playoff race is already starting to come into focus. In the AFC, teams like the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and Kansas City Chiefs feel like the safest early picks because they either stayed strong, improved key positions, or still have elite quarterback play to lean on. In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers look like the teams with the clearest path to staying in the mix after the draft. NFL.com

The AFC still feels deeper and more chaotic. Denver looks more dangerous after adding more help around Bo Nix, while Buffalo continues to reload instead of rebuild. Baltimore also looks steadier than a lot of people expected, especially with another offseason focused on keeping the roster balanced. Kansas City remains impossible to ignore whenever Patrick Mahomes is healthy and the defense stays disruptive. NFL.com NFL.com

In the NFC, Seattle and the Rams feel like the two teams that already look playoff-ready on paper. Seattle kept a lot of its foundation intact and added support pieces, while the Rams still carry the look of a team built to win now. San Francisco remains talented enough to stay in the conversation, but consistency will matter more than reputation. My way-too-early lean right now: Bills or Broncos from the AFC, Seahawks or Rams from the NFC.
